The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning about anticipated moderate to heavy rainfall over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Benue, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Abia, and Imo states from Wednesday, June 26 to Friday, June 28, 2024.
This forecast includes potential flash floods due to the expected heavy downpours, and strong winds that may accompany the rains.
This warning was included in NiMet’s forecast bulletin published on Tuesday.

The agency also predicted light to moderate rainfall over the next three days in Kaduna, Niger, Abuja, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, and Lagos states. Very light or no rain is expected in other parts of the country.
NiMet advised the public to avoid driving through surface runoff waters due to strong undercurrents. Other potential hazards include slippery road surfaces and reduced visibility during rainfall, which can disrupt road traffic. Strong winds pose a threat to weak structures, trees, and masts.
The agency also recommended disconnecting electrical appliances before the rains start, not during.
“No hydrometeorological hazards are anticipated elsewhere. The public is advised to watch out for updates,” the agency stated.
