…as APC urges unity, backs Tinubu’s reforms
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described Nigeria’s ranking as the fourth most terrorism-affected country in the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2026 as clear evidence of failure by the Bola Tinubu-led administration to secure the country.
In a statement on Thursday by Bolaji Abdullahi, its National Publicity Secretary, the party cited a 43% rise in attacks and increasing civilian casualties, stressing that the trend reflects a deeper governance crisis rather than isolated security lapses.
The ADC also criticised the absence of key government officials during critical moments, noting that leadership must demonstrate urgency and coordination in times of national distress.
To address the crisis, the party proposed a three-pronged strategy including establishing a legally backed national intelligence coordination system, decentralising policing to strengthen community-level security, and adopting a preventive, intelligence-driven approach to counterterrorism.
It said the measures would enhance response efficiency, improve accountability, and curb the growing threat of terrorism across the country.
Meanwhile, Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has extended Eid-el-Fitr greetings to President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Government officials, party members and Muslims across Nigeria.
Yilwatda also urged citizens to embrace unity and sustain the values of Ramadan.
In a message marking the end of the Holy Month, Yilwatda described Ramadan as a period of reflection, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal, noting that its lessons discipline, compassion, and selflessness are essential for national development.
He called on Nigerians to carry the virtues beyond the fasting period by promoting peace, justice, and mutual respect, especially as the country navigates economic and security challenges.
The APC chairman also commended President Tinubu’s leadership, highlighting ongoing reforms aimed at economic stability and national growth. He urged continued public support for the administration’s efforts to reposition Nigeria.
He further offered prayers for national unity, the success of security agencies, and divine guidance for leaders.
The message reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to good governance and wished Muslims a peaceful and joyous Eid celebration.
