Nigerians seeking to renew their U.S. visitor visas will now be required to attend in-person interviews following the suspension of the visa Dropbox service by the United States.
The decision, which eliminates a previously available fast-track option for eligible applicants, has sparked concerns over prolonged processing times and disrupted travel plans for students, business travellers, and other visitors.
The TheDropboxx system previously allowed certain applicants, particularly those with recent U.S. travel history, to submit their passports without interviews, significantly reducing wait times.
With the removal of this option, visa interview dates—already backlogged in some cases by over a year—are expected to become even more difficult to secure, adding further strain to the application process.
While the U.S. Embassy has not provided an official reason for the suspension, some observers believe the decision is linked to the lingering effects of U.S. President Donald Trump’s restrictive immigration policies.
His administration had previously imposed travel bans on several African nations, including Nigeria, citing security concerns.
The latest development adds to the challenges many Nigerians already face in securing U.S. visas, raising concerns over delays and uncertainty for travellers planning to visit the country.
