Nigerian chef’s world record cook-a-thon draws nationwide support

Nigerians are in awe as Hilda Effiong Bassey popularly known as Hilda Baci, a Nigerian chef, is on the verge of breaking the world record cook-a-thon which will see her cook for four straight days.

Akwa Ibom state-born chef started the exercise on 11 May and will end on 14 May, enabling her to set a new record for the longest cook-a-thon in history. Over the course of the exercise, Hilda has received support from the length and breadth of the country.

Notable supporters include Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor was at the location of the cook-a-thon in Lekki to show support for Hilda. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo put a call through to the chef as she embarked on her world-breaking exercise.

Peter Obi, Labour Party Presidential aspirant wrote on his Twitter handle, “The efforts being made by Hilda Effiong Bassey (Hilda Baci) to beat the current Guinness World Record for cooking for 4 days nonstop shows the true Nigerian spirit of hard work and resilience. I applaud her determination and focus on the goal, inspiring many Nigerian youths to live their dreams through hard work and dedication.”

Hilda has also gotten recognition from Britain’s Got Talent as Seyi Oluyole came with her children who performed a choreography dance session in support of the chef.

Social media influencers and comics also came out in their numbers supporting Hilda as she attempted to break the World record.

Kemi Adetiba, a Nollywood filmmaker, was among the celebrities that praised the chef on social media. She wrote “Really rooting for Hilda Baci. I don’t know her personally, but her drive, ambition, and resilience, inspire and motivate me immensely. Sending her prayers and the best vibes to push through. She’s inspiring people she doesn’t even know.”
