Nigeria not ready for state police yet, says IGP Egbetokun

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, has expressed that the country is yet be ready for state police.

The IGP said this on Monday at a national dialogue on state police organised by the House of Representatives in Abuja with the theme of the dialogue is ‘Pathways to Peace: Reimagining Policing in Nigeria’.

Egbetokun who was represented by an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Ben Okolo, stated that the country is not prepared for the establishment of state police.

He said, “It is the submission of the leadership of the police force that Nigeria is yet to mature and ready for the establishment of state-controlled police.”

The IGP recommended that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Federal Road Safety Commission be merged to form a department in the Police Force.
