Nigeria, Germany partner to establish grazing facilities in rural communities

Nigeria and Germany have agreed to establish grazing facilities in rural communities across the country.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development and a delegation led by Karin Jansen, First Secretary and Head of Cooperation at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The minister stated that the grazing facilities would be equipped with fodder production, micro earth dams, and boreholes to ensure all-year-round grazing for animals. He noted that emphasis would be placed on pasture and breed production to enhance quality dairy products.

The initiative aims to promote sedentary livestock production systems and improve the livelihoods of livestock farmers.

Karin Jansen noted that the German Government is committed to deepening its partnership with Nigeria in livestock production and its value chain.

She highlighted the importance of integrating livestock development into peace-building efforts and expressed support for the proposed local government grazing reserves as a pilot site.

The German Government also suggested establishing demonstration ranches in key States to promote modern livestock production practices.

The collaboration between Nigeria and Germany is expected to have a positive impact on the livestock sector, enhancing food security and promoting economic development.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to support livestock farmers and promote sustainable livestock production practices in Nigeria.
