Nigeria and the Kingdom of Bahrain have taken a significant step toward deepening their diplomatic and economic relations, with a focus on expanding trade and energy collaboration.
This was as Nigeria and the Kingdom of Bahrain officially established diplomatic relations following high-level discussions between the two nations’ foreign ministers.
Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with his Bahraini counterpart, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, in Manama, Bahrain, where they signed a Joint Communiqué solidifying diplomatic ties.
According to a statement issued by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations, attracting Bahraini foreign direct investment to Nigeria, and expanding trade opportunities.

According to the statement, both ministers also explored cooperation in the oil and gas sector, particularly in onshore projects and the development of Nigeria’s 8th train LNG.
“Additionally, discussions covered the training of Nigerian diplomats and enhancing collaboration in multilateral forums, further deepening the two countries’ diplomatic engagement.
“The development aligns with Bahrain’s broader global partnership strategy”, the statement reads.
It also disclosed that recently, Al Zayani chaired the third meeting of Bahrain’s national committee for implementing the Bahrain Summit Initiatives, underscoring the country’s commitment to international cooperation.
“This new diplomatic relationship will unlock economic and investment opportunities for both nations, strengthening Nigeria’s global partnerships and expanding its economic reach in the Gulf region”, it noted.
