The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other Agencies have deported about 1,230 stranded Nigerian migrants from Niamey to Kano State.
In a letter addressed to Immigration, Customs and Police Authorities in both Countries, the Nigerian Embassy in Niger, disclosed that the returnees were being transported in vehicles operated by Rimbo Transport Voyageurs.
The Mission said a total of 12 drivers and attendants were assigned to convey the migrants, noting that the convoy would travel through the Maradi–Katsina border corridor into Nigeria.
The embassy appealed to relevant authorities along the route to provide the team with the necessary cooperation and assistance to ensure a smooth, unhindered journey.
“Grateful therefore, accord them the necessary cooperation and assistance to facilitate their journey in/out without any hindrance,” the letter stated.
The letter, referenced NEN/171/2026 and dated March 27, 2026, was signed by G.D. Muhammad on behalf of the Ambassador to Niger.
BusinessDay gathered that officials at Magama Jibia received a total of 345 males and 185 females.
The deportees are from Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Niger, Taraba, Adamawa, Enugu, Sokoto, Ebonyi, Gombe, Plateau, Delta, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Confirmed the development, Nura Abdullahi, Head of Operations, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kano State, said NEMA, in collaboration with other Agencies, had received a total of 1,208 deportees in two batches from the Republic of Niger.
“Refugees Commission and other stakeholders, so far, we received 1,230 people, just last week 708 people and yesterday (Sunday) we also received another 522 people.” he said.
