The Nigerian Communication Commission has urged  Nigerians not to deliberately, or inadvertently obstruct deployment of services in their various localities as it amounts to denial of citizens rights to communications.
The Executive Vice Chairman of Nigerian  Communications Commission NCC, Umar Garba Danbatta, made the call at the ‘NCC Day’ at the 28th Enugu International Trade Fair.
He called on every Nigeria to be vigilant and protect telecommunications infrastructure to enables customers remain in communications with one another, and beyond our immediate environments..
He also debunked the rumour in certain quarters who believed that telecom masts and towers constitute health hazards to humans.
According to him,”the Commission still maintains that the World Health Organization. WHO, has affirmed that no result of any such hazard has been established against base stations”.
Danbatta, represented by Rebuen Muoka, Head Public Relations advised that people should not use such reasons to deny right of way to telecom companies.
” that any individual, or community adducing such reasons to deny right of way to the telecom companies, and prevent them from expanding services are invariably contributing to the poor quality of service in the network”. The vice Chairman said.
He stated that their statistics show positive movement in the provision of services to the citizenry with Internet penetration standing at about 90 Million subscribers in February 2017, while phone subscription stands at 154 Million at the same period, bringing the nation to more than 110% teledensity.
He maintained that his commission would not rest to deliver on their mandate especially as it concerns the consumer.
In an address the President of ECCIMA Ugo Chime commended NCC in their effort in regulating service providers in Nigeria.
