The bonds were guaranteed by the full faith and credit of the Federal Government of Nigeria, issued pursuant to the Presidential Power Sector Debt Reduction Programme (PPSDRP) approved by the Federal Executive Council.
The Programme was established to address legacy debts owed to Generation Companies (GenCos) by NBET, improve liquidity within the power sector, restore investor confidence, and support sustainable electricity generation.
Proceeds from the issuance will be applied primarily towards the settlement of verified outstanding GenCos liabilities for the period February 2015 to March 2025.
