The abductors of Safiyanu Isah Andaha, the Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area and his friend, Adamu Umar Tanko, are demanding the sum of N50 million as ransom for the release of their victims.

The abductees, Andaha and Tanko, were kidnapped at about 8:30 pm in Ningo village Monday night, along the Akwanga-Jos road in the Akwanga Local government Area of the state.

Tanko, fondly known as Adamu Custom, is a native of Ningo.

A family source, who doesn’t want his name in print, disclosed this to our correspondent on Tuesday morning, saying that negotiations were ongoing between the family and the gunmen.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Haruna Kassimu, confirmed the abduction of the council boss and one other at Ningo village at about 8:30 pm on January 1st, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Nasarawa State Police Command has commenced investigating the abduction of the council chairman, Safiyanu Isa-Andaha.

Ramhan Nansel, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, said this in a chart with BusinessDay in Lafia.

The PPRO said the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, had mobilised personnel to go after the hoodlums and rescue the chairman and one other person who were kidnapped with him.

The police spokesperson added that they got information that the chairman and the one other were abducted around 8:30 p.m. in Ningo village of Akwanga local government.

“The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are currently on the trail of the kidnappers to ensure the release of the council chairman and the other victim,” he said.

Nansel, therefore, urged members of the public, especially people in rural areas, to provide the police with valuable information that would lead to the rescue of those abducted and the arrest of the perpetrators.
