Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has endorsed moves by Governor Abdullahi Sule to block all leakages of revenue collections in government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for development to thrive in the state.

The House also passed for first and second reading a bill for a law to provide for the harmonization and collection of all revenues (taxes, duties, levies, rates, fees charges, etc) due to the state and local governments in Nasarawa State and the establishment of relevant administrative structures and other purposes connected therewith.

The move by Governor Sule which was aimed at harmonizing all revenue collection due to the state would also be extended to the 13 local government areas of the state.

The Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, stated this during the House Proceedings in Lafia on Wednesday.

Balarabe-Abdullahi said should the bill be passed into law, it would ensure transparency and accountability in revenue collection in the state.

“I must commend you for turning up despite short notice as we are all aware that we are on recess. I thank you all and I urge all of us to continue in that spirit of unity, progress and development,” he said.

The speaker slated Thursday, December 31, 2020, for the presentation of the report on the bill by the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

Earlier, Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House, while presenting the substance of the bill said that the bill if passed into law would block leakages in revenue collection in the state.

“This government is up and doing to see how the state can be moved to the next level of development. This bill if passed into law will harmonize all revenues and will block leakages in revenue collection in the state,” he said.

The majority leader urged his colleagues to support the bill to see the light of the day.

The Minority Leader of the House, Danladi Jatau, who seconded the motion for the bill to scale first and second reading, was hopeful that the bill would boost the revenue generation for the overall development of the state.
