NAF sets up c’ttee on safety audit of operational unit, others

36 soldiers killed in Niger ambush, aircraft crash

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has set up a committee to conduct safety audit of its operational and engineering units. The committee has serving and retired senior officers as members.

It is headed by Abraham Adole (air vice-marshal), who is the deputy theatre commander, ‘Operation Hadin Kai’.

It has up to June 18 to submit its report to the chief of air staff, Oladayo Amao, an air marshal.

Director of public relations and information, Edward Gabkwet (air commodore), disclosed in a statement he issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

The committee is expected to conduct safety evaluation of NAF units and recommend measures to enhance safety of operations.

The committee will also interact with operational and technical personnel of the concerned units for views, observations and contributions on safety measures.

The constitution of the committee is necessitated by recurring air mishaps involving NAF aircraft, the latest being the one that claimed the lives of Nigeria’s chief of army staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 other officers on Friday, May 21, 2021.

It would also be recalled that in February, seven Nigerian Air Force officers died in a plane crash.
