Motorists and commuters outbound Lagos Island on the Eko Bridge are in for hard times, as the Lagos State Government has announced an emergency closure of the bridge for safety investigations and repairs.

The closure, according to the government, will commence on Tuesday,  May 12, 2026.

Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the state Commissioner for Transport, in a statement on Sunday, said, in view of the closure between Apongbon and Ijora Olopa, members of the motoring public were advised to use the Third Mainland Bridge to access their desired destinations.

However, the inward lane of the bridge to  Lagos Island will remain open to motorists.

He said “adequate traffic and security personnel will be deployed along alternative routes to guide motorists and ensure smooth traffic flow.
