Money printing: N60bn saga signals Nigeria not a safe environment  for investors- PDP

Why Emefiele’s continued stay at CBN is dangerous – PDP

The South-South zone of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday said the submission by the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele on money printing was a signal to foreign investors that Nigeria is a no-go area for investments.

Dan Orbih, South-south national vice chairman of the party made the remarks in Benin when Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly led other Nigerians to advocate for youth inclusion in government.

Recall that the Apex’s bank governor said that “the concept of printing of money, is about lending money. That is our job. To print is about lending money.

Orbih, who described the CBN governor’s statement as political, noted that it was an acknowledgment that the economy is in danger.

While criticizing the CBN governor for the statement, he opined that Emefiele was not able to convince Nigerians about the economics to make the decision to print over N60billion to meet the statutory allocations disbursed to the various tiers of government.

“To me, that was a public admission that all is not well with our economy. You can not make  that type of message and at the same time you want to bully those who are genuinely concerned about what is happening in our country today by threatening to ask states that borrowed money to pay up immediately.

“I think it is time for us as a country to make it very clear that whoever assumes the office of CBN governor should have his loyalty to the people of our country and not the government. That is why we must take it seriously this revelations by Godwin Obaseki.

“No government can sustain the economy of a country with that type of abuse. It is my prayer and hope that very soon the CBN must come out clearly to tell Nigerians that they have what it takes to bailout us out from this predicament”, Orbih said.

The immediate past chairman of the party in  Edo State, however, commended the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly for leading other Nigerians to advocate for youth inclusion in government.

“I think the importance of your visit is that we all have a role to play, irrespective of political parties, to chart new course for our nation.

“We need the youths to come up with ideas and programs that will help this government come out of their mess because the revelations by Godwin Obaseki is a sad reminder of what happened in Uganda under former President Idi Amin”,he added.

He promised to convey their message to the highest decision body of the party, assuring that the PDP will accommodate the interest of the youths and encourage greater participation of youths in politics and government.

Earlier, Ogundoyin canvassed active participation of youths in politics and solicited Orbih’s support in advancing the interest of youths to the highest political office in Nigeria.
