Gov. Mutfwang bans night grazing, mining

Meanwhile, Caleb Mutfwang on Monday visited attacked communities in Barkin Ladi and Bassa local government areas of Plateau State, where he sympathized with victims and announced fresh security measures, including bans on night mining, night grazing and underage grazing.

The governor visited Nding community in Barkin Ladi following recent attacks that claimed several lives and displaced families.

Accompanied by Benard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and other officials, Mutfwang met widows, children and survivors, assuring them that government would not abandon them. “Nding community will not go down,” the governor declared.

“I have been on this matter since it started. I have been in touch with the local government chairman and security agencies to contain the situation, and I decided to come here to see things for myself,” Mutfwang stated, while commending security agencies for preventing the violence from spreading into Barkin Ladi town.

He also warned that any security personnel found complicit in the attacks would be investigated and prosecuted.

At a strategic security stakeholders’ meeting held at Gwol Motel in Barkin Ladi, attended by religious leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups and community representatives, the governor vowed that perpetrators of attacks in Plateau would not escape justice.

“The life of every Plateau citizen is precious, and we will do everything within our power to protect our people. Those who take pleasure in killing and inflicting pain on others will not know peace,” he said.

He further directed that all mining activities must end by 5:00 p.m. daily and reiterated the ban on night grazing across the state.

Governor Mutfwang also visited Ngbrazongo village in Kwall District of Irigwe Chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area, where he sympathized with residents over recent killings and assured them of additional security deployments.

He encouraged farmers to return to their farms ahead of the planting season, promising fertilizer subsidies and improved security, while urging the media to avoid narratives capable of discouraging investors and visitors to Plateau State.
