President Bola Tinubu has nominated Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the new Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), after approving the removal of Saidu Mohammed.
The announcement was contained in a State House press release issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the removal of Mr Saidu Mohammed as the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), in the public interest,” Onanuga said.

Meet Rabiu Umar
Rabiu Abdullahi Umar joined Dangote Cement Plc as Group Sales and Marketing Director, bringing over two decades of experience across the downstream petroleum and cement manufacturing sectors, with a strong focus on transformational leadership.
He began his career at Oando Plc, where he rose through the ranks to hold several management positions within the marketing division, culminating in leading the company’s Sales and Marketing Transformation plan.
In 2014, he moved to Lafarge Africa Plc as Energy and Power Director, and later took on responsibility for Strategy and Business Development across West Africa, overseeing key projects in Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon.
He was appointed Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Ashaka Cement Plc in 2016, where he led a turnaround of the business before departing in 2019 to join Dangote Industries Limited as Group Chief Commercial Officer.
Umar holds a degree in Accounting from Bayero University Kano and is an alumnus of Harvard Business School. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors.
