Mbah pledges Dubai, Singapore luxury experience at New Enugu City

Mbah talks tough as attack on Nimbo community leaves 4 dead

The luxury experience which Dubai and Singapore offer residents and sundry investors in their cities will be replicated in New Enugu City, Governor Peter Mbah has assured Enugu people and their friends.

The New Enugu City which sits on 10,000 hectares of land off Enugu Abakaliki Road, is an ambitious project by the Mbah administration. It traverses the Enugu East, Enugu North, Enugu South, and Nkanu West Local Government Areas of the state.

The development of the new city for which 17 kilometre-road, feeder roads and other infrastructure are being constructed, is aimed to make the state the premier destination for investment, business, living and tourism.

Governor Mba assured that the first phase of the project, which covers 26 square kilometers, would be delivered in 24 months in line with the state government’s determination to restore Enugu’s lost glory and its position as one of the top three states in Nigeria.

“We have conceived a city that we believe marks the beginning of our journey to the position and consequential roles we want to play in the affairs of this continent,” Mbah assured, adding that the development of the new city which has been awarded to China Construction and Engineering Company (CCEC) would rub shoulders with any other great city in the world.

“We are going to start with the first phase of about 26 square kilometers. This will warehouse three islands, namely the Happy Island, the Vitality Bay and the Innovation Park. All of these islands are designed with first-class city features in mind,” the governor said.

Continuing, he assured, “All the things that we experience when we travel to Dubai, Singapore, and other major cities in the world is what we are about to bring to you here in Enugu State because we believe you deserve nothing but the best. And this is pursuant to the pledge we have made to Enugu to grow the economy from its current level of $4.4 billion to $30 billion in the next four to eight years.”

Mbah hopes that the new city will create a veritable platform because it is going to have a dedicated power project, a dedicated power plant and a central sewage system, while all the central public utilities will be centralised and provided by the government.

The city will also give access to high-speed internet connectivity; it will be such that there is hardly anything found in any modern smart city that won’t be found in that city.

To show the state government’s determination to deliver on its promise, the governor said, “We are not going to entertain any variation, delay, or time overrun because the funds will be provided, and we will ensure that we put in place a close monitor to ensure not only that the standards we have agreed on are met but also that the timelines are met strictly. We are also providing the highest quality of roads; we are all making sure that the roads are well paved.”

“We are here not only to witness the construction of a road, we are here to witness the construction of infrastructure, and there is hardly anything you will find in any modern smart city that you will not find in this city,” he added.
