Lagos unveils traffic diversion advisory for 2-week island roads repair

The Lagos State government has advised motorists to look out for the traffic diversion plan that has been put in place to enable them have stress-free driving experience in the next 14 days, beginning from Friday, January 17, 2025.

The roads diversion is aimed to enable the state government carry out repairs at Eko Hotel Roundabout, Ajose Adeogun to Ligali Ayorinde and Ligali Ayorinde to the end of Landmark.

Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the state’s commissioner for transportation, noted in a statement, that the traffic diversion which will be comprehensive will facilitate technical checks, duct calibration, and land route repairs across the designated locations.

According to the commissioner, the affected routes will be partially closed to accommodate the repair work, adding that at work Eko Hotel Roundabout where work will start on Sunday, January 19, and will be carried out along the road median with no expected traffic disruption.

He explained that traffic from Eko Hotel heading towards Adetokunbo Ademola will be rerouted into two lanes around the roundabout to ensure safe and efficient work operations.

Repair work on Ajose Adeogun to Ligali Ayorinde is expected to start on Monday, January 20 and end on Friday, January 24, 2025. During this time, traffic will be restricted to two lanes as motorists approach Ligali Ayorinde Junction, inward Oniru Beach, to address repairs on a manhole at the junction.

As for Ligali Ayorinde to the end of Landmark, work will begin on Saturday, January 25 and will be completed on Friday, January 31, 2025. Repairs will be done on the road setback, with minimal traffic impact anticipated.

Osiyemi assured motorists and sundry road users that efficient traffic management measures has been put in place, adding that traffic management officers will be stationed along the affected routes to minimize inconvenience and manage vehicular movements effectively.

He urged motorists to be patient and cooperate with the outlined traffic management plan as the repairs and technical checks are aimed to enhance road safety and efficiency.

“These activities are part of ongoing efforts to maintain the underground submarine cable network on Lagos Island,” he said, advising that residents should stay informed through official communication channels for further updates.
