Lagos State is planning to raise its public bus fares by 18 percent. The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) announced this change on Thursday through its social media channels.
LAMATA explained why they need to charge more, saying: “The fare rise is because of the increase in the cost of operations and the need to ensure that buses keep running and guarantee your movement around Lagos. We seek your understanding and cooperation.”
The new prices will start on February 17, 2025. This isn’t the first time bus fares have gone up – back in June 2022, the Lagos State Government approved adding N100 to Bus Rapid Transit fares on all routes. That increase happened because diesel prices were rising and many buses weren’t running due to a lack of spare parts.
