Laja Adeoye,  governorship candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 general election, has formally moved to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), in what his campaign team describe as a strategic move aimed at sustaining momentum ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship election.

The move, according to his campaign team, is not a breakaway from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but a practical response to the lingering leadership crisis and legal battles within the party that could affect preparations for the election.

In a statement issued by his campaign office, Adeoye said the adoption of the APM platform was necessary to avoid distractions and remain focused on offering Lagosians an altern20ative leadership vision.

“We have adopted the APM platform to stay focused. There is too much work ahead for Lagos in 2027.

“We cannot allow internal party tussles to stop us from providing the quality leadership Lagosians truly deserve,” the statement read.

The camp insisted that relations with the PDP structure in Lagos remain cordial and collaborative, stressing that the opposition family is united in its determination to challenge the ruling APC in 2027.

The development is said to align with the broader opposition strategy being championed by Seyi Makinde, whose influence continues to shape opposition politics across the South-West.

Sources within the opposition coalition noted that several politicians in Oyo and other states have embraced similar alliances to avoid being caught up in party legal disputes and INEC deadline complications.

Adeoye had earlier emerged as the consensus PDP governorship candidate in Lagos before the latest political realignment. His mandate, party stakeholders said, has now been transferred to the APM platform with the backing of loyal PDP structures across the state.

Lagos PDP Chairman, Amos Fawole, confirmed the alliance, revealing that the PDP and APM had agreed to work together ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to him, all candidates, including governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly aspirants would contest under the APM platform to avoid being affected by unresolved internal issues within the PDP.

“This ensures our candidates are not shut out by INEC timelines while the PDP resolves its internal matters. The PDP structure remains united behind Laja Adeoye and other candidates committed to rescuing Lagos,” he said.

The opposition also used the occasion to intensify criticism of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of plunging Lagos into mounting debt, worsening infrastructure decay, housing shortages and rising hardship after nearly 26 years in power.

Adeoye said his “Better Lagos Agenda 2027,” tagged Atunto Eko 1.0: Re-Engineering Lagos for Inclusive Prosperity, would focus on infrastructure renewal, affordable housing, debt sustainability, economic growth, security and improved social welfare.

“This is about putting Lagos first. We are united with our PDP brothers and sisters, working together with APM to end the cycle of hardship and open a new chapter of progress and prosperity for every Lagosian,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the APM continues to witness growing interest from opposition politicians across the country.

Supporters of the alliance claimed that the party’s relatively stable internal structure and absence of major legal disputes make it an attractive platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political watchers say the emerging coalition could reshape opposition politics in Lagos as the battle for the state intensifies.
