Kogi Govt promises robust welfare package to motivate quality education delivery

The Kogi State Government has promised a robust welfare package to motivate teachers for quality education delivery in the state.

Joel Salifu, the state’s Deputy Governor, gave the assurance at a three-day “Education Study Circle Leadership” workshop for members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) on Wednesday in Lokoja, adding that Governor Ahmed Ododo’s administration within three months in office had been fulfilling the promises made to teachers during the electioneering campaign.

Salifu, who was a former Kogi NUT Chairman, noted that there had been tremendous improvement in teachers’ welfare in the state particularly at the local government level, as he appreciated the teachers of Kogi for voting massively for Ododo/Salifu ticket during the November 11 governorship election.

Salifu eulogised the former Governor Yahaya Bello, for being the first governor to fully recognise teachers in the state, saying posterity would never forget him.

The deputy gov. commended Ododo for his love for the teachers and the entire people of the state as he reaffirmed the commitment of Ododo’s administration to continue to make teachers happy in the state by fulfilling all its promises to improve their well-being.

He said “NUT is where I come from; I am happy to be here today because I always belong to NUT, and I am proud to be part of Ododo’s administration.

“We have seen a lot of promises being fulfilled for teachers within three months of this administration and it will continue.

“What has happened within three months of Ododo’s administration was unprecedented.

“I know as a talk and do governor, there are betters days ahead for teachers”.

Salifu equally commended the past state chairmen and executives of NUT for their commitment to the plight of teachers in the state.

He urged the teachers and the entire people of the state to continue to support the Governor and his administration for the betterment of the state.

Earlier, Solomon Igbelowowa the National Coordinator of, the NUT Study Circle Leadership Project, said the workshop was to enhance and build the capacity of teachers for effective performance.

He said “The training is to enhance, promote and increase the knowledge and skills of teachers towards efficient performance in their various organisations.

“We are expected as teachers to be an embodiment of knowledge, skills and excellence, and NUT is poised to deliver that at all times”.

Igbelowowa commended the deputy governor for associating with them as a teacher and former NUT chairman.

Also speaking, Seun Ayoeinde, the state NUT Deputy Chairman, commended the deputy governor for honouring the invitation despite his busy schedule to associate with his union.

Ayorinde assured the total and continuous support of teachers for the Ododo/Salifu administration to ensure their outstanding success for the benefit of the entire people of the state.
