Kogi government commiserates with families of canal accident victims

The Kogi State Government has said that it received the sad news of the death of five people as a vehicle plunged into a canal around the Omi Dam in Yagba West Local Government Area of the State on Friday May 26, 2023.

According to a press statement signed and issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo and made available to journalists in Lokoja on Monday states that “We have since launched investigations into the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident”.

“The State Government is willing and ready to cooperate with the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority to improve the safety of people working around the canal and passengers traveling along the routes around the canals. We cannot afford to lose the lives of our citizens to such avoidable deaths”.

“The State Government has received preliminary reports from the Yagba West Local Government authorities who moved swiftly to salvage the situation to no avail. We will communicate our observations and recommendations to the authorities of the LNRBDA to avert future occurrence”.

“Our hearts are with the families that lost their loved ones and the people of Yagba West and Yagba East Local Government Areas over the unfortunate and sad accident. May God repose their souls”.

“The Kogi State Government will liaise with relevant authorities to offer support to the victims’ families”.
