Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna DisCo) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with J-Marine Logistics Limited and its primary investor, ASI Engineering Limited, to jointly develop a 100-megawatt (MW) solar power project across four northern states.

According to the agreement, the bulk of the solar photovoltaic (PV) installations, 60 MW, will be located in Kaduna State. Sokoto will host 20 MW, while Zamfara and Kebbi States will each benefit from 10 MW solar systems.

The planned solar plants are expected to contribute to Nigeria’s ambition of achieving universal energy access by 2030 and increasing the share of renewable energy in its national grid from 22 percent to 50 percent.

In a related development, local reports indicate that J-Marine Logistics is also considering establishing a solar panel manufacturing plant in Kaduna, with an estimated production capacity ranging from 200 MW to 500 MW annually.
