JUST IN: Ekiti Govt converts ljero College of Health Science To Polytechnic

The Ekiti State government has approved the conversion of the College of Health Science and Technology, Ijero Ekiti, from a mono-technic to a polytechnic.

The Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, announced the decision in a statement today, highlighting that it was one of the key resolutions reached during the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

According to the statement, the decision followed a formal request from the management of the institution and other stakeholders advocating for the upgrade. In response, the state government constituted an eight-member committee on March 15, 2024, to evaluate the proposal and provide recommendations.

The committee submitted its findings to Governor Oyebanji on December 30, 2024, after which a White Paper Drafting Committee was set up to review the report. The draft White Paper was then presented to the State Executive Council for consideration, leading to the final approval of the conversion.

Olatunbosun emphasised the significance of the transition, stating that polytechnics generally offer a broader range of technical programs, equipping students with more diverse skills and career opportunities.

He noted that the shift would provide students with a more comprehensive theoretical foundation alongside practical training, ultimately enhancing their employability in various technical fields.

The government’s approval marks a significant step toward expanding educational opportunities and strengthening the technical workforce in the state. Further details regarding the transition process and implementation timeline are expected to be provided in the coming weeks.
