Jigawa State Government says it has provided N30 billion for the State Assembly members as constituency project funds meant to undertake critical projects in their constituencies as part of State’s strategy aimed at fighting poverty, especially in the rural areas.
Under the new initiative, each of the 30-member Assembly is allocated portion of the amount of money which is targeted at 38, 250 individuals, across the State.
Governor Umar Namadi made the statement while launching the first phase of the Constituency project spearheaded by Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, the Speaker of the Sate House of Assembly in Miga Local GovernmentArea of the State.
He gave the assurance that similar exercise would be replicated in the remaining 29 Constituencies spread across the State as over 2, 118 people received various sums of money to either boost their agricultural investment or the Micro, Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (MSMEs).
BusinessDay reports that about 1,000 people received N 100,000 each; 150 people received the sum of N 50, 000 each; 150 people got N 30, 000 each; 250 people were given the sum of N 20,000 each, while 1,368 people were given the sum of N 10,000 each.
Providing additional insights into the initiative, the governor, who was the special guest of honour at the occasion, noted the initiative was an indication that the lawmakers were closer to the Constituencies and understand their problems.
