Taraba State governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, has commiserated with the Organised Labour and immediate family of the late Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) chairman in the state, Rev Peter Gambo, over the union leader’s demise.

Gambo died in the early hours of Wednesday.

A statement by the governor’s media aide, Bala Dan Abu, and made available to BusinessDay on Wednesday said the governor received the news of the sudden and untimely death of the NLC chairman with rude shock.

“The news of the death of Rev Gambo is particularly devastating to the administration of His Excellency because the late trade unionist played a vital role in making labour in Taraba State a strategic partner of government in the development of the state.

“He was one labour leader who administered the union with the fear of God and a genuine determination to significantly improve the welfare of workers,” the statement said.

In the emotion-laden statement, Gov Ishaku recalled the late Gambo’s mature and skillful approach to labour issues which resulted in the robust and productive relationship between government and the labour unions in Taraba State.

While urging workers in the state and the family of the late labour leader to take solace in the fact that Gambo served the entire Nigerian labour family meritoriously, the governor noted that the late unionist left an unblemished legacy of loyalty and honesty.
