Wole Oluyede, Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the June 20, 2026 Election in Ekiti State, has declared that he remains the most prepared contender to lead the State to prosperity, citing his experience, commitment and long-standing engagement with the State.
Oluyede made the assertion while addressing supporters during a welcoming rally in Ikere-Ekiti, Headquarters of Ikere Local Government Area, aftermath of his enlistment by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the poll
Reiterating his readiness for leadership, the PDP candidate declared, “I am very sure that in the history of Ekiti State, there is nobody as prepared as I am to be governor. I have the qualifications, the experience, and the commitment.”
He also canvassed support from Ekiti South, stressing the need for equity in leadership representation, while assuring residents that he has a clear blueprint to deliver good governance if elected.
“I will be the best governor Ekiti has ever produced. Give me four years, and I will justify your trust,” the PDP candidate said.
On governance, Oluyede maintained that his ambition is driven by a desire to reposition the state, stressing that his political focus remains strictly local.
“Every politics is local. My politics is local. I am going to be the governor of Ekiti State, and my interest is to make Ekiti better,” he said.
He criticised the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration under Governor Biodun Oyebanji, alleging that the state has witnessed a decline in economic growth, infrastructure, and general wellbeing.
He added, “Ekiti is not better than it was a few years ago. The economy has tanked, roads are worse, unemployment is higher, and people are less secure and less prosperous.”
According to him, governance should translate into improved living conditions, lamenting that many residents are struggling to access basic services, including healthcare and quality education.
He further highlighted gaps in the education sector, noting the shortage of qualified teachers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as well as inadequate funding for schools and hospitals.
“We have no clear plan to create wealth or attract investors. Infrastructure is poor, and even key projects lack proper support. We need to rethink governance in Ekiti,” he added.
Oluyede also commended the judiciary for upholding due process, saying, “I have to thank the Nigerian judiciary. They looked at the laws, the processes, and I have faith in them. I believe Nigeria will still be a better place.”
Addressing concerns about his ties to the state, the Australia-based medical expert-turned politician dismissed claims that he is disconnected from Ekiti, insisting that he has remained actively involved in the state’s affairs over the years.
“Yes, I live and work in Australia, but I don’t think there is anyone in Ekiti politics who has spent more time here than I have in the last 12 years. I travel over 16,000 kilometres almost every month to be here,” he said.
Oluyede urged voters to reject inducement and vote based on conscience and future prospects, warning against selling votes for financial gains.
“Vote your conscience. Nobody can buy your conscience. Vote for your future and that of your children,” he advised.
On his part, the party chairman, Tunji Odeyemi expressed confidence that voters in the state would support the PDP and its candidate towards achieving victory in the June 20 governorship election.
