Traditional rulers in Ijesa North, under the auspices of the Ijesa North Traditional Rulers’ Council in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, have endorsed the aspiration of Pelumi Olajengbesi, Accord Party chieftain,to represent the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election.
The endorsement was announced on Thursday during a town hall meeting held at the council’s headquarters in Iloko-Ijesa. The gathering was attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, residents, Olajengbesi and his wife.
Speaking on behalf of the council Olufemi Agunsoye Oba, the chairman, the Elegboro of Ijebu-Ijesa , said the royal fathers were convinced that Olajengbesi possesses the capacity to provide effective representation and attract meaningful development to the constituency.
The monarchs urged residents of Oriade and Obokun local government areas to support leaders capable of delivering responsive governance, stressing the need for quality representation at the National Assembly.
One of the monarchs, the Olowena of Owena-Ijesa, Ayelabola Oladoyinbo Oba, offered prayers for Olajengbesi and his wife during the meeting after inviting the couple to kneel before the council.
Addressing the gathering, the monarch expressed confidence in Olajengbesi’s political ambition, describing his aspiration as one deserving of broad public support.
“Your aspiration for the House of Representatives in the 2027 election is a done deal. We believe you have what it takes to excel, and you will excel and make us proud,” the traditional ruler said.
Olajengbesi, a legal practitioner and indigene of Ijebu-Ijesa in Oriade Local Government Area, thanked the monarchs for their endorsement, describing it as a vote of confidence in his vision for the constituency.
He reiterated his commitment to offering what he described as people-centred and development-focused representation if elected, promising to prioritise youth empowerment, infrastructure development, education and economic opportunities across the federal constituency.
The lawyer currently serves as spokesman for the Imole Campaign Council, the political platform supporting the re-election of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke. He is also the convener of the Imole Grassroots Mobilisation Network in the state.
Olajengbesi, who will turn 40 in August, previously contested for the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency seat in the 2019 general election.
His renewed ambition is expected to set the stage for a keen political contest in 2027 as he seeks to unseat the incumbent lawmaker, Wole Oke of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who has represented the constituency in the House of Representatives for 24 years.
According to Olajengbesi, the constituency requires a new generation of leadership driven by fresh ideas, accountability and effective youth representation, arguing that the time has come to replace what he described as the recycling of old political ideas with innovative and inclusive governance.
