Prompted by the mission to instil creativity, new ideas, perceptions and innovation in the young ones, coupled with an effort to develop Nigerian arts and culture, IHS Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of IHS Towers, has invested in arts development, sponsoring hundreds of school children in Lagos on a tour of the National Museum on Children’s Day.
Hundreds of school children drawn from both public and private schools, including Abina Omololu Primary School, Jehovah Jireh Primary School, Maryland School Complex, Ifesowapo-aboru, Eva Adelaja Girls Grammar School and Ilupeju Junior Grammar School, were taken on a tour of National Museum, Onikan in Lagos State.
The tour of National Museum on Children’s Day, according to IHS Nigeria, is conducted in partnership with National Commission for Museums and Monuments to allow the young ones to have firsthand information about Nigerian culture and artefacts with a view to instilling in them creativity and new innovation on development and maintenance of artefacts and ideas that tell the Nigerian stories.
Speaking at an event tagged, “Children’s Day Tour of the National Museum held in Lagos, Titilope Oguntuga, Director Sustainability, IHS Nigeria Limited, said the operators of shared communications infrastructure, organised the children tour of the National Museum as a follow-up to the renovation and upgrade earlier done to the National Monument.
She said, “Museums are powerful spaces where history, culture, innovation, and storytelling come alive, helping young minds connect with the past while inspiring
dreams for the future.
“At IHS Nigeria, we help people stay connected every day. Whenever your parents make phone calls, send messages, browse the internet, or watch videos online, there are towers working quietly in the
background to make that possible.
“We build and manage those towers across Nigeria and many other countries, helping millions of people communicate, learn, work, and stay connected to the people they
love.
“But beyond technology, we also believe in supporting communities, education, and opportunities for young people like you. We believe that investing in education and youth development goes beyond
the classroom. It also means creating opportunities for learning, exploration, and meaningful experiences such as this.
“That is why we are proud to support the renovation of this museum and even more excited to see students from primary and secondary schools across Lagos gathered here today to experience it firsthand.
“As you walk through the galleries today, we encourage you to ask questions, discover new ideas, and most importantly, enjoy the experience. Who knows? Today’s visit may inspire the next historian, artist, inventor, scientist, or leader among you.”
Earlier, Nkechi Adedeji, Head of Station, National Museum, Lagos, tasked young ones to sustain stories of excellence and quality developed by African forebears in arts and culture by being curious, innovative and creative.
“You can create something that lives for 100 years and more. You can be part of the craftsmanship we are talking about. You can pass your creative works from one generation to generation”, Adedeji noted.
The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Education, who was represented by Awojumobi Oluwaseun, Director, Co-Curricular Services, requested more IHS partnership in the area of students’ growth and development, lauding the firm for its quality investment in the development of young ones on the path of creativity and innovation.
