Idanyingi Daminabo mounts seat of Registrar of Rivers State University

She was acting as Registrar but an announcement rang out last weekend that Idanyingi Daminabo has been appointed substantive registrar.

A statement signed by Victor Banigo, acting director, corporate affairs, said the 15th Governing Council of the Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, approved the appointment.

According to the statement: “Until her appointment as Registrar, Dr Daminabo was the Acting Registrar, a position she had held since 15th December, 2025.

“Daminabo holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology, Master of Science in Sociology and a Doctorate Degree in Human Resource Management. She joined the services of the University in 1994 as Administrative Officer I through a transfer of service from the Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori, where she was employed as Administrative Officer II in 1988. She rose through the ranks to the position of a Director in 2017.

“She is a Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration; Fellow, Institute of Policy Management and Leadership Development (FIPLD); Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM); and Member, Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA).

Her appointment takes effect from 11th June, 2026.”

Her profile adds that as an alumnus with a strong academic background, Daminabo

steadily advanced through the ranks, achieving the position of Director in 2017.

She is a distinguished professional. After her one-year NYSC at Enugu in 1988, then Anambra State, and began with her first appointment at Bori. She has served as Secretary of over 28 committees in the University. She was a member of the Rivers State Government Personnel Audit for RSCOE in 2002 and also served as External Assessor on Interview Panel at the Federal University of Otuoke in 2020.

A university registrar is the chief administrative officer of the institution, responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the day-to-day non-academic administration of the university. They act as the primary bridge between students, faculty, and university management, ensuring that both academic processes and campus operations run smoothly.

Experts say the registrar is actually the engine room and institutional memory of any university where the culture of the institution springs from.
