I will fix all bad roads in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu assures

bad roads in Lagos

Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has asked for patience from Lagosians on the deplorable condition of roads in the state, saying all such roads would be fixed with time.

Sanwo-Olu spoke at ‘The Platform’ an annual discourse organised by the Covenant Christian Centre, a Lagos based church, founded by Poju Oyemade. The theme of this year’s discourse was “re- designing the Nigerian economy with new ideas”.

Sanwo-Olu, who was responding to questions from the audience bordering on bad roads and gridlocks ravaging Lagos metropolis, said the rainfall has significantly hampered palliative works on the roads.

Sanwo-Olu promised there would be extensive road rehabilitation after the raining season, adding, however, that all roads could not be fixed at the same time.

Apart from bad roads, the governor explained that, the huge population of the state (estimated at 22 million) cramped into a small landmass was a major factor in gridlock. Sanwo-Olu told the capacity audience that his government’s remedy for the traffic congestion was a multi-modal transportation system that would combine water, road and rail system.

“On water transportation, we are encouraging the building of a lot of jetties and we have just acquired six to seven new passenger boats that can take 60-70 passengers at a time”.

These Sanwo-Olu said would be the long term solution to the transportation problem, adding that the government was working on a short, medium and long term solution to issues surrounding transportation.
