Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s first lady, on Monday, promised to empower 80 women in each of the 36 states with N500,000 to enable them to begin agricultural activities, amounting to N1,44 billion.

The first lady is to mobilise wives of governors of the 36 states to be a part of the empowerment process, just as she charged them to play a more active role in galvanising communities to support the government’s efforts at securing the country.

Tinubu, who addressed the governors’ wives, urged them to remain steadfast and provide the necessary support in mobilising other women to play their roles in ensuring peace.

The meeting, coming on the heels of ongoing security challenges also dwelt on women empowerment, girl child education as well as self-sufficiency in food production to eradicate poverty and economic hardships, especially in the rural communities.

Tinubu noted the vital roles women play in ensuring stability in the community and promised to leverage strong relationships with the wives of the governors to drive grassroots programmes, across the country

She announced that the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) would be distributing 1,950,000 exercise books to public primary and junior secondary schools across the country.

The exercise books which are already being produced would be given to each state through the RHI coordinator/first lady of the state to SUBEB chairmen for distribution to students through local government education authority.

Lagos and Kano would be getting 100,000 exercise books each, while 50,000 exercise books would be given to other states and FCT.

Tinubu also announced that the RHI would flag off the “Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programmes (WASP) in Imo State on February 28, 2024.

She disclosed that 80 women farmers would receive N500,000.00 each and a total draft of N10m would be given to five RHI state coordinators/first ladies as the case may be.
