The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the closure for the 2023/2024 student loan application cycle and also opened applications for the 2024/2025 academic session.

According to NELFUND, all outstanding applications for the 2023/2024 session will be processed promptly to ensure eligible students receive the necessary financial support.

NELFUND, an initiative of the federal government, caters for tuition fees and monthly upkeep allowances for successful applicants in public higher educational institutions in Nigeria. Beneficiaries will refund the interest-free loan after their National Youth Service Corp (NYSC).

Here’s step-by-step guide on how to apply for the loan for 2024/2025 academic session below:

1. Visit the official NELFUND website
Navigate to nelf.gov.ng.

2. Initiate the application process
Click on the “Apply Now” button prominently displayed on the homepage.

3. Begin registration
Select “Get Started” to commence your application.

4. Confirm eligibility
Respond to the preliminary questions to verify your eligibility.
Confirm your nationality by selecting “Yes, I am a Nigerian.”

5. Verify educational information
Choose your institution from the provided dropdown menu.
Enter your matriculation number to check if your institution has submitted your details.

6. Authenticate with JAMB
Click on “Verify with JAMB” and input your JAMB details as prompted.
If your National Identification Number (NIN) isn’t registered with JAMB, provide your NIN for validation.

7. Create your account
Input your email address and set a secure password.
Confirm your password and click “Create Account.”

8. Verify your email
Check your email for a verification link from NELFUND.
Click the link to activate your account.

9. Log in to your account
Return to the NELFUND portal and click “LOGIN.”
Enter your registered email and password to access your account.

10. Update contact details
Provide your current phone number, full residential address, state, and local government area of residence.
Click “Proceed to Educational Details.”

11. Update educational details
Select your higher institution from the list.
Enter your matriculation number accurately.
Click “Proceed to Account Details.”

12. Provide bank details
Enter your Bank Verification Number (BVN).
Select your bank from the dropdown menu and input your account number.
Click “Save Changes” to complete your profile.

13. Apply for the student loan
Click on the “Request for Student Loan” button located at the top right corner after logging in.

14. Specify loan requirements
If you require funds for personal upkeep, select the corresponding checkbox.
If only institutional charges are needed, proceed without selecting the upkeep option.
Click “Continue” to proceed.

15. Upload supporting documents
Upload a scanned copy of your admission letter (mandatory).
Optionally, upload your student ID and institution’s invoice.
Acknowledge the policy and declaration by checking the appropriate box.
Click “Continue.”

16. Review and submit an application
Carefully read through the loan overview.
Agree to the Terms & Conditions and the Global Standing Instruction (GSI) Mandate by checking the respective boxes.
Click “Submit Application” to finalise the process.

17. Monitor application status
After submission, click on the “Loans” section to view the current status of your application.

You will be notified if your application is successful. If your application is not approved, you can contact NELFUND through the email on their website.
