How Adeniran tap AI for socio-economic impact

Opeyemi Adeniran, AI research engineer, is pushing the boundaries of innovation in artificial intelligence through her research and development that are transforming lives and communities globally.

Sharing how she started her career and leveraging his expertise to break barriers in AI research and development, with a focus on harnessing artificial intelligence to drive socio-economic impact and address pressing global challenges.

Adeniran’s career in AI began with a strong educational foundation, earning a master’s degree in Advanced Computing and currently pursuing PhD research.
Her career spans over five years, with roles as a data scientist, machine learning engineer, AI engineer, and now, an AI researcher.

“I have always been driven by a desire to solve global challenges,” she noted. “My interest in AI was sparked when I joined a platform where teams collaborated to address real-world problems using AI.”

Throughout her career, she has been involved in various projects that demonstrate his commitment to harnessing AI for socio-economic impact.

One notable project involved developing an AI model to identify regions in Nigeria lacking electricity access.

Another project focused on combating unemployment in Nigeria by offering graduates personalised skill-building and job recommendations.

Adeniran expertise has also been applied to addressing healthcare challenges, particularly in the detection of Alzheimer’s disease.
Her research has explored the use of explainable AI to assist clinicians in understanding model predictions for diagnosing and classifying Alzheimer’s progression.

As a leading expert in AI, she is tackling several issues faced in the industry. One major challenge is the need for increased adoption of AI solutions.

“The public and professionals must embrace AI tools and models to access their benefits,” she emphasised. Another challenge is the importance of explainability in AI models. The expert stressed that “AI researchers and engineers should prioritize transparency, interpretability, and explainability in their models to build trust and enhance adoption.”

To address these challenges, she recommends that governments and organizations support initiatives that promote AI education, awareness, and adoption. “Governments can accelerate AI innovation by supporting organizations and businesses that use AI for social good,” she said.

As the founder of the Favored Online Skills Acquisition Network, she has empowered over 1,000 individuals globally to transition into tech careers.

She also founded Morgan TechFest, a tech conference that educates university students across USA on the impact of technology on their career paths through research symposium, panel discussion and networking with tech experts.

The initiative has attracted sponsorships from major tech organizations, including Google, AWS, Bloomberg, CapitalOne, Kyndryl and M&T Tech, along with partnerships from Microsoft, Ripple, and Oracle.

Her role as community lead for the global project has also enabled him to make significant contributions to the global AI community. In recognition of her expertise and impact, Adeniran has secured 500 monthly premium data science course scholarships for the Omdena community.
