Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has said the wave of infrastructure development across Abuja and its satellite communities will significantly influence voting behaviour in favour of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking on Tuesday after inspecting ongoing projects across the FCT, Wike said recent political developments in the territory already point to a gradual shift in electoral sentiment towards the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He cited the February 21 Area Council elections, in which the APC secured five of the six chairmanship seats, as evidence of changing political dynamics in the nation’s capital.

“For the first time, the ruling party won in places where it had never won before. What residents want is governance that impacts their daily lives, and that is what President Tinubu is delivering,” Wike said.

According to the minister, the administration’s development strategy, particularly the extension of infrastructure projects to rural communities and satellite towns, is driving public support.

He noted that residents were more concerned about visible improvements in infrastructure, electricity supply and living conditions than political rhetoric.

“What reason would people have not to vote for the president now? Previous administrations did not extend development to satellite towns in the way this government is doing,” he said.

Wike described the administration’s interventions as “governance in action”, adding that the impact of projects executed within the president’s first three years in office would shape future electoral outcomes in the FCT.

“The true measure of governance is its impact on people’s lives. Based on performance, I am confident the FCT will support the president in future elections,” he added.

The minister recalled Tinubu’s visit to Kwali Area Council for the inauguration of the A2-Pai Road project, describing it as unprecedented for a sitting president to commission a project in such a rural community.

He said the administration would sustain the pace of development, with more road and water projects nearing completion across the territory.

On the status of projects inspected, Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of execution, noting that several projects would be ready for inauguration as part of activities marking Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.

He said the Court of Appeal Complex in Dakibiyu was about 70 percent completed, with finishing works ongoing, while the Judges’ Quarters in Katampe were nearing completion.

Construction work is also progressing on residences for judges of the National Industrial Court and quarters for the Code of Conduct Tribunal, he added.

Wike further disclosed that the CN2 Collector Road in Katampe was close to completion, with work currently focused on walkways and streetlights.

In Gaduwa District, he said installation of streetlights, walkways and road markings was ongoing.

At the Wasa relocation site for the Apo Mechanic Village, Wike said road construction and streetlight installation had been completed, while water connection remained outstanding.

“I came here with security officials so work can commence on the police station and residential quarters for officers,” he said.

He added that the redevelopment of the informal sector hub would stimulate economic activities and reduce congestion within the city centre.
