Gombe partners FG on exploitation of solid minerals

Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has expressed the readiness of his administration to partner the federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, on exploration and exploitation of solid minerals, to boost the economy of the state.

Yahaya stated this through his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Ismaila Uba Misilli after a meeting with the minister of state for Mines and Steel Development, Uchechukwu Ogah at Gombe State Governor’s Lodge, Abuja, on Tuesday.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the minister on his part commended Governor Yahaya for his commitment towards harnessing the resources in Gombe for the benefit of the people.

“We have discussed extensively on the partnership between Gombe and the Federal Government as it relates to solid minerals. The governor has shown enthusiasm in developing the mining sector in his state; this goes to show a governor with a vision and mission.”

He noted that with the dwindling fortunes of the oil sector, government at all levels must seek for an alternative.

“Now that oil is going down, governments must diversify, and the way to go is the mining sector and agriculture. I must say that the governor of Gombe State has shown foresight and commitment in this regard, that is why he initiated this meeting,” the minister said.

Gombe is blessed with abundant natural resources, including gypsum, limestone and coal among others.
