Germany has unveiled the eligibility criteria for its newly introduced German Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte), a visa program designed to attract skilled professionals without requiring them to secure a job offer beforehand.
The initiative operates on a points-based system, allowing qualified individuals to enter Germany and search for employment opportunities.
The Opportunity Card is initially valid for up to one year, with the possibility of an extension or transition to a different residence permit if the applicant secures a job offer or employment contract during their stay.
According to Germany’s Federal Government, individuals who meet the conditions for employment can obtain a follow-up Opportunity Card or another residence permit through the local foreigners’ authority.
To be eligible for the Chancenkarte, applicants must earn at least six points based on factors such as education, work experience, language skills, and age.
It also noted that points are allocated based on specific criteria, including partial recognition of foreign qualifications, professional experience in the last few years, and proficiency in the German language.
Additional points can be awarded for those with a background in shortage occupations, previous legal residence in Germany, or applications submitted jointly with a spouse.
It stated that applicants looking to increase their Chancenkarte score can improve their German language skills, gain more work experience, or seek formal recognition of their qualifications in Germany.
Those who apply alongside a qualified spouse can also receive an extra point, potentially boosting their chances of approval.
It emphasized that once the eligibility requirements are met, applications for the German Opportunity Card can be submitted through Germany’s immigration portal.
“Required documents include proof of qualifications, work experience, language proficiency, financial means, and health insurance.
“Some German missions abroad collaborate with service providers to process applications, and applicants may be required to pay a service fee”, it stated.
The German Opportunity Card aims to streamline the immigration process for skilled professionals, providing them with a structured pathway to explore employment opportunities in Germany.
