The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has said that the GEF-UNIDO project will greatly help industries in Nigeria to advance energy efficiency and resourceoptimisation and promote sustenance development in the country.

GEF-UNIDO is a collaborative Initiative between the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) which helps countries achieve global environmental benefits by reducing emissions, achieving climate resilience and eliminating chemical waste.

Speaking during the GEF-UNIDO Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) and Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP) specialised workshop held in Uyo,Akwa Ibom State on Monday, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, Director-general of MAN, said the funding support would accelerate adoption of technologies and systems that reduce energy consumption in the country.

He explained that the project would address and encourage the adoption of Industrial Energy Efficiency and Resource Efficient Cleaner Production methodologies within industries in Nigeria through structured capacity building programme, provision of expertise, equipment and a revolving credit guarantee fund.

Highlighting the pivotal role being played by the bank of Industry towards achieving the project, the DG commended the bank for its dedication to fostering green and sustainable industrial practices in Nigeria,emphasising that it commitment would enhance the overall successful delivery of the project.

“This capacity building workshop brings together stakeholders such as UNIDO, Project Management Unit, the Bank of Industry, and selected financial institutions.

“It signifies our collective commitment to support the quest for the transformation of the manufacturing sector in Nigeria, through the adoption of resource efficiency and cleaner production methodologies while ensuring environmental sustainability.

“The broad objective of this project is to address and encourage the adoption of Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) and Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP) methodologies within industries in Nigeria through structured capacity building programme, provision of expertise, equipment and a revolving credit guarantee fund.

“This financial support is essential in helping industries across Nigeria to adopt technologies and systems that reduce energy consumption, lower operational costs, and contribute to sustainable development. I therefore commend the bank of Industry for it dedication to fostering green and sustainable industrial practices in Nigeria

“Our veritable partners, the Bank of Industry, plays a pivotal role in this project. They have been tasked with managing the financing component, ensuring that manufacturers have the necessary resources to implement energy-efficient solutions and cleaner production practices”, he said.

He listed the advantages of the workshop to include providing relevant information on the structure, framework and other essentials of the GEF-UNIDO IEE & RECP Nigeria project, fostering better understanding of industrial Energy Efficiency and Resource Efficient Cleaner Production Methodologies. and Equipping participants with the requisite knowledge needed for the successful implementation of the component three of the GEF-UNIDO IEE & RECP Nigeria project document among others.

The National Project Coordinator of the Project, Oladipp Jacob who represented Oluyemi Banjo National Project Coordinator, Environment and Energy UNIDO in Nigeria, while giving an overview of the project, listed the key stakeholders in the project to include the BOI, the Federal Ministry of Power. Standards Organization of Nigeria, National Universities Commission, among others.
