Ganduje signs legislative instrument on Public Audit into law

As a way of strengthening good governance, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has accented to a legislative instrument promulgated by the State House of Assembly aimed at strengthening public accountability.

The signing into law of the instrument entitled ‘Kano State Audit Law 2020’ would also be followed up with the establishment of a public agency to be known as ‘Kano State Public Audit Commission’

Governor Ganduje performed the signing at a brief ceremony Wednesday, during the State Executive Council Meeting, held at Africa House Section of the Government House, Kano.

Speaking before signing the public document, the governor expressed the determination of his administration to continue to promote transparency and accountability in public institutions across the state.

“I am highly delighted today to sign this all-important public document passed by the State Legislators to support our resolve to run a transparent, and accountable government.

“With the newly signed Law, the state could now go to places, at global arena, without any hindrance as we make transactions or the other. What this means is that we are now fully ready to conform to global best practice in all our transactions.

“The Bill was promulgated especially for the promotion of good governance in our administration, we found it extremely necessary to reach this level of committed for the overall development of our state, and the nation in general,” he said.

Governor Ganduje revealed his administration resolved to establish an agency that would be charged with the regulation of auditing practices in the state and ensure that the culture is well-entrenched.

“To further institutional strengthen audit practices in all levels of governance in the state, we intend establishing Audit Commission. This will surely go a long way in consolidating all feats that was achieved.

“Establishing such an institution will definitely scale up our rating in the area of public transparency and accountability and promote full confidence in public governance”, he pointed out.
