Ganduje inaugurates committee on peace-building

Kano proposes N148bn for 2021

Following the break down of law and order in some parts of the commercial city of Kano, in which persons were feared dead last Tuesday, in the state; Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has inaugurated a 17-Member Peace Committee.

The committee is being co-chaired by the leader of the Igbo community in the state, Boniface Ibekwe, and the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria.

Speaking while, inaugurating the committee on Wednesday, at the Government House in Kano, Governor Ganduje, said that the committee was constituted as a way of restoring peace among the diverse ethnic nationalities residing in the state.

The governor charged the committee to convene a meeting of all ethnic groups in the state to work out the modalities for sustaining peaceful co-existence among members of the group.
He disclosed that the measure becomes imperative as peace-building is a collective responsibility of all peoples living in the state.

He noted that similar, committee has been constituted among the host community for the same purpose.
According to the governor, the committees are to work along with the state government and security agencies to ensure that peace prevails in the state.
