After several months of staying away from the court, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), former national security adviser (NSA) on Thursday appeared before a Federal Highh Court in Abuja to continue his trail.
Sambo had cited the refusal of the Department of State Security (DSS) to release him after several courts ordered his release from custody.
In an open letter written to the court on November 14 2018, the former NSA said he would stop submitting himself for trial. He based his request on the Federal Government’s continued refusal to comply with several court orders granting him bail.
However, in a dramatic move, the Attorney General of Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubàkar Malami (SAN), ordered his release from the DSS custody, a day before last Christmas.
Dasuki was arraigned in 2017 on an amended 7-count charge for unlawful possession of firearms and money-laundering before Justice Ahmed Mohammed of a Federal High Court, Abuja.
He is also standing trial in two separate suits before Hussein Baba-Yusuf, a judge of a Federal Capital Territory High Court (FCT) in Maitama.
At the resumed hearing on Thursday, Olukayode Ariwoola, counsel to Dasuki asked the court to strike out two applications, pending before the court because his client has been released.
Dipo Okpeseyi, counsel to the EFCC urged the court to fix a date for proper commencement of trial.
The judge adjourned the case to March 11 and 12 for continuation of trial.
