The federal government has expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions and reported attacks involving the Houthi militia in Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
It called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and embrace dialogue to avert a further deterioration of the security situation.
A statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Nigeria was closely monitoring developments and urged all sides to immediately de-escalate the crisis by refraining from actions capable of endangering civilian lives and undermining regional peace and stability.
The government stressed the need for the parties involved to prioritise dialogue, diplomacy, and other peaceful means of resolving their differences, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
“Nigeria calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and pursue constructive engagement to prevent further escalation of the conflict,” the statement said.
The Ministry warned that any further escalation could have far-reaching consequences for regional security, stability, and humanitarian conditions, noting that sustained hostilities would only deepen existing challenges in the Middle East.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s longstanding commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes, the federal government pledged its support for all genuine and constructive efforts aimed at reducing tensions, restoring calm and promoting lasting peace and stability in the region.
