FG installs new passport printers at U.S. Consulates to address delays

Nigerians in the United States can now expect smoother and faster passport application processes following the installation of new passport printers at the country’s consulates in Atlanta and New York.

This development comes in response to a directive from Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, issued in January 2025 to tackle delays caused by outdated equipment.

According to a statement signed by Babatunde Alao, Minister’s Special Adviser on Media, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) successfully delivered and installed the machines on February 18, 2025.

According to the Minister, the move addresses concerns raised by Nigerians in the diaspora over prolonged passport processing times and is expected to significantly improve service efficiency while reducing application backlogs.

“The Ministry is committed to innovation and improved service delivery. The installation of these new printers demonstrates our dedication to addressing the needs of Nigerians at home and abroad”, Tunji-Ojo stated.

The initiative is part of a broader reform effort by the Ministry of Interior, which includes the Abuja Passport Personalisation Centre and the expansion of contactless solutions to streamline passport services across more regions.

This development, he said, aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to enhancing government services for Nigerians both locally and internationally.
