FG donates N50m equipment to enhance vocational, entrepreneurship skills in UNIJOS

Banditry: TETFUND researchers want FG to invest in technology

Through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), the federal government has donated state-of-the-art equipment worth about ₦50,000,000 to boost vocational skills development and promote entrepreneurship in the University of Jos (Unijos) in Plateau State.

According to Tanko Ishaya, the vice-chancellor at Unijos, who took the delivery of the equipment, “The equipment is to facilitate manpower development in areas such as Photography, Cinematography, Tailoring, Digital Studio Production, Printing, Graphics Design and Robotics, among others, through the institution’s Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies.”

Ishaya applauded the federal government through the TETFund for the generous and timely intervention while unveiling the equipment for deployment.

The vice-chancellor who was represented by Rahila Gowon, the deputy vice-chancellor in charge of academics, emphasised the importance of cultivating a maintenance culture among the end users to ensure the longevity and effectiveness of the equipment.

“We are fully committed to ensuring that the centre has the tools, resources, and environment to achieve excellence. The success of the centre is the success of the university, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that it thrives,” the vice-chancellor said.

The vice-chancellor also commended Emmanuel Oki, the director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies, and his team for their hard work and dedication in securing the TETfund intervention.

He acknowledged the commitment and effort demonstrated by the staff of the centre in developing the proposal for submission to TETFund, noting that the university administration has always supported initiatives that contribute to the enhancement of educational and entrepreneurial development.

Ishaya further disclosed that the delivery of the high-tech equipment is part of the broader efforts by the university to strengthen its entrepreneurship programmes and contribute to the economic development of the Plateau State and beyond.

In addition, the vice-chancellor said the university aims to empower its students and members of the community with the skills, resources, and knowledge to become leaders in business and technology, with the ultimate goal of contributing to the socio-economic transformation of Nigeria.

The new equipment includes Star Link Internet Service, Pro SDI and HDMI Wireless Video Transmission System, portable 6-Channel Switcher, SDI & HDMI Video Switcher with USB streaming, 15.6″ Display Monitor and External Recorder.

Also procured were an Industrial 3-thread Weaving and Overlock Machine, an Industrial Power Steam Iron, a Fabric Cutting Machine as well as a Video Ring Light among many others.

Oki explained that with these new resources, the university’s Center for Entrepreneurship Studies is poised to play a pivotal role in equipping Students and the wider community with the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly entrepreneurial world.

“This latest development underscores the institution’s ongoing efforts to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development while fostering a conducive learning environment for Students and members of the community to acquire practical skills that will empower them to become active contributors to the economy and society,” he said.
