The Federal Government has begun the distribution of Presidential emergency food and nutrition items to vulnerable persons across the three Senatorial Districts of Adamawa State.

Bernard Doro, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, said the initiative was aimed at reducing the impact of food insecurity and supporting affected households.

“This distribution exercise is a decisive step to cushion the immediate effects of food insecurity and stabilise affected households. The Government of Nigeria stands firmly with its citizens in moments of vulnerability,” he said.

Doro explained that beyond providing immediate relief, the Federal Government would be implementing reforms to strengthen the country’s humanitarian and poverty reduction systems.

He added that beneficiaries of the food support would also be connected to other social protection programmes, including conditional cash transfers.

According to him, other interventions include livelihood restoration programmes, skills acquisition initiatives, agricultural support and micro-enterprise financing to help beneficiaries regain economic independence.

He further stated that the Government is expanding and strengthening the National Social Register to ensure vulnerable households are integrated into structured social protection systems nationwide.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State commended President Bola Tinubu for supporting vulnerable persons at the grassroots level.

Represented by Bello Hamman-Diram, the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Humanitarian Services, the governor described the intervention as timely and impactful.

He said the initiative aligns with the State’s humanitarian efforts through the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and assured that the items would be distributed fairly to those in need.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Faluma David expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, saying the support was meaningful given their current challenges.

Items distributed include rice, beans, vegetable oil, palm oil, seasoning cubes and salt. The event was attended by government officials, community leaders and development partners.
