FG denies reported attack on Borno school, assures parents of students’ safety

The federal government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, came under attack, describing the claims as false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among parents, guardians, and the general public.

In a statement issued on Monday by Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, the ministry said there was no attack on the school, stressing that students, staff, and facilities remain safe and secure.

According to the ministry, academic activities, boarding operations, and other school programmes are continuing without disruption in a peaceful and secure environment.

“The Ministry states unequivocally that there was no attack on Federal Government Girls’ College, Monguno. The school remains safe and secure, with all students, staff, and boarding facilities fully protected and accounted for,” the statement said.

Maruf Tunji, Minister of Education, Alausa, reaffirmed that the safety, security, and welfare of learners in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority of the federal government.

He said FGGC, Monguno, operates under robust security arrangements designed to ensure the continuous protection of students, staff, and school facilities.

Alausa also clarified that no student of the college was involved in the incident that had been falsely linked to the school on social media.

According to him, the individuals affected were remedial students outside the college, while the Borno State Government is already taking the necessary steps to ensure their safety and welfare.

The ministry urged the public, particularly social media users, bloggers and online publishers, to verify information through credible and official sources before publishing or sharing reports.

It warned that the deliberate spread of unverified information misinforms the public, creates unnecessary fear, undermines public confidence and distracts from ongoing efforts to provide safe and conducive learning environments for students across the country.

The ministry also appealed to parents and guardians to remain calm and continue supporting their children with confidence, assuring them that there is no security threat at the school.

It reiterated its commitment to working closely with security agencies, state governments and school authorities to sustain the safety and security of all Federal Government Colleges nationwide.

The ministry added that it would continue to provide timely and accurate information through its official communication channels and urged the public to disregard the false report in its entirety.
