The federal government has commissioned the Multipurpose Kashimbila Dam and 40 megawatts (MW) Kashimbila Hydropower Plant, located in Taraba State, on Thursday, May 18, Damcrest Energy Limited said in a release.
According to the statement, these projects were commissioned through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources in conjunction with its implementing partner, the Federal Ministry of Power under the supervisory oversight of the Infrastructure Concession and Regulatory Commission.
Damcrest Energy Limited, with its joint venture partner Kashimbila Power Limited (KPL), emerged as the preferred bidder and was confirmed as the concessionaires of the 40MW Kashimbila Hydropower Plant after a competitive bidding process on May 24, 2022.

“The hydropower plant was originally intended to be an 18MW installation but was re-configured to generate 40MW, and the dam reservoir expanded from 200 million cubic meters to 500 million cubic meters,” the release read. “The Multipurpose Dam has the potential to provide treated water to the surrounding communities and irrigation, whilst the powerplant would increase the supply of clean renewable energy to the National Grid.”
The asset will be operated and managed by Damcrest Energy Limited, a subsidiary of Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (operator of the Kainji and Jebba Hydropower Plants) under a concession agreement with the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The company said it is determined to make great strides in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry and support Nigeria’s industrialisation agenda as operators of this critical national asset.
