FG cautions Nigerians in UK against involvement in mass riots

The Nigerian government has issued a warning to Nigerians living in the United Kingdom and those planning to travel there to be cautious due to the mass riots that broke out in England.

Yusuf Tuggar, the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, publicised this warning, expressing concern over the situation in England and some parts of Northern Ireland.

The riots occurred in England on July 29 following the murder of three girls in Southport, North-East England, during a dance class on a residential street, which also resulted in eight others being injured.

Far-right influencers falsely blamed the attack on a Muslim and used the situation to fuel anti-immigration movements. It was later revealed that the culprit was a UK-born resident.

“Avoid political processions and protests, rallies or marches,” the minister advised. “Avoid crowded areas and large gatherings, be vigilant and self aware at all times.

Additionally, the government advised Nigerians to contact the High Commission with any relevant information that could be of interest to the situation.

“This violent mob does not represent our country and we will bring them to justice,” Keir Starmer, the UK prime minister had assured the country.
