The Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has risen by more than 344 percent, climbing from about N9billion monthly to over N40 billion, following revenue reforms implemented by the FCT Administration.

Nyesom Wike, FCT Minister disclosed this during in Abuja on Thursday, attributing the sharp increase to measures aimed at plugging revenue leakages, improving collection efficiency and expanding revenue sources, particularly from land-related payments.

Wike said the administration’s focus on recovering ground rents, improving the collection of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) fees and strengthening accountability in revenue processes had significantly transformed the territory’s earnings.

“When we came on board, our IGR was a mere ₦9 billion a month, but as I speak to you today, we’ve been able to improve it to forty-something billion. So when people now say, ‘Oh, FCT is working, FCT is working,’ it’s working because somebody has made it to work,” he said.

The minister said the improved revenue base had strengthened the capacity of the FCT Administration to finance infrastructure projects and improve service delivery across Abuja.

He noted that the growth in revenue was not accidental but the outcome of deliberate policy interventions and administrative reforms designed to ensure that government resources were efficiently mobilised and deployed.

According to him, the increased inflows have provided the administration with greater financial flexibility to execute development projects and address critical infrastructure needs within the nation’s capital.

Wike further emphasised that effective leadership, transparency and prudent management of public resources remained central to achieving measurable progress in governance.

He added that the FCT’s revenue performance demonstrates the impact of sustained reforms and focused leadership in improving public sector efficiency and delivering visible development outcomes.
